Question about a violin chin rest?
I recently bought a violin chin rest for my violin. Its a normal chin rest but the odd thing ive never seen is that instead of it being completely firm around the area that touches your shoulder, the bar is adjustable. Now when I play it sometimes when I put pressure on my neck, it curves towards me and becomes uncomfortable. Is there a way to keep it straight and firm?

Ha, you got me confused there for a minute until I saw you meant shoulder rest 
It is hard to tell really, some shoulder rests are meant to be flexible and bend a little, some are adjustable and some are fixed. The only way to say for sure is to take it to a qualified store dealing with violins and similar stringed instruments.
If you take lessons or classes, you might want to ask your teacher for his/her opinion.
It could be that you need to adjust the height a little, so that the chin and shoulder rest together makes it as comfortable as possible for you to play.
